Weekday update #31: Oh my, the things that hair can do!

Monday is about comfort and nothing is more comfortable than something raided from mom's closet. It makes me feel like a little girl playing in the grown up closet again. Mom keeps everything and her closet is full of my childhood memories. This silk shirt, along with a few others that I borrowed from her this weekend, made for very cozy princess bedspread back in the day. After all these years, strong shoulders and plaids are back to be as relevant as they were back then. Except now instead of rolling around in it, I'd rather wear it.

I believe today's post title is close to something C said. I'm so ready for spring, and that sounds quite odd coming from a totally fall/winter gal! I suppose the crazy weather has something to do with it. One day it's 70 degrees, the next day it's 27! I decided I couldn't wait any longer and thus, went out and got myself a spring hairdo. Now how long will it stay like this you ask? Oh, probably a week. I change just like the weather. But while it's straight, I'm channeling Gossip Girl's little Jenny Humphrey. Yeah, I know I'm a tad seasoned to be running around looking like a high school freshman, but all fashionistas know... if you've got it, flaunt it! xoxo - Gigi

Weekday update #30: She's Got Fur On Her Sleeves!!

Well, today marks the last day of clothes I hate. Today's hated item: these corduroy, bell bottom pants. Just can't stand them and don't ask me why. Probably because with this afro, I look like I just stepped out of 1970. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Honestly, the economy is probably just the same now as it was then! The real issue that I have with these pants is that the bell at the bottom just appears to be too darn big for my frame. I've tripped on this bottom too many times and have fallen twice. That's why I don't like them. They don't function in the way I think they should. I just hope I never have to make a mad dash for it in these pants, or I'm toast!

Channeling a little bit of that fur flying around at NY fashion week, here is my Hong Kong street market sweater from three years ago. Worn alone, it's a little walking on the wild side. But layered over a sheer shirt with rolled up sleeves, it's actually toned down enough for walking in broad daylight. The polka dots pumps are really not supposed to go with anything. It's just there to make me smile. Polka dots have that power. :)

Weekday update #29: Lil' Chinchilla

I am sure you've figured out by now that color is my thing. Sometimes more is really just better as in this super comfortable knit dress. Normally, I don't wear a belt with it as the waist is already defined by the stretchy stripes in the middle. But this morning I discovered that a belt that was recently given to me as a gift had the same knit texture in the back as the dress. So I figured that today is as good as any to get the two acquainted. And they really came together not too badly!

Welcome back to things from my closet that I hate. LOL! Today's hated item, this fur vest. I, for the life of me, can't seem to wear this vest in such a way that I have to say, "damn this looks good!" It's all in the attitude I guess. Please note that I tried my best and it (in my opinion) still ain't good enough, but I've always been my worst critic, I take all my own criticisms with a grain of salt! However, before I hit the street, I decided to ask my boyfriend's opinion. I really should know better than to do this, but I find his comments amusing (at times!). This time, I felt it was a must to get his take on this ensemble. This is how it went:

"Hey babe, what do you think of this outfit?" I ask. "It's cool, but I'm not down with the vest." He said. "Really? Do tell?" I ask. "Cause you look like a little chinchilla. But I think chinchillas are cute, but you still remind me of one nonetheless." ^_^

I must admit I do adore his honesty. I wonder if he knows that chinchillas can have a mean streak from hell though? I'm not inferring anything, just making an observation... :)

Weekday update #28: Bolero

Hi folks. I'm continuing my segment on clothes I possess that I don't fancy. I'll be doing this for the rest of the week, just so you know. I've got plenty of things in my closet that I just don't care for. Like I said yesterday, just because I don't care for them, doesn't mean they aren't likable to others. This morning, C commented on my nice bolero jacket. I don't like this thing on me. It looks good on the hanger though. Okay moving to the lace shirt. Again, not my favorite, but I like to wear this shirt with my utterly boring pin stripe suit. It gives it a kick. And lastly, the motorcycle boots! I always wanted a pair of this type of boot and any fashionista worth her salt knows that they are a hot ticket, when worn just right! The problem is that there are so many various types of motorcycle boots that it's easy to get overwhelmed. I decided upon these because they possessed this really cool embroidered design. Well, when they arrived, I thought they were quite bright and well... gaudy! I really don't do gaudy. Okay, I know what you're thinking, 'Whatever girl, I've seen your photos, you do gaudy just fine!' I suppose what I mean is, I love a statement piece, just not a gaudy one.

So as I was packing these boots up to send them back, my friend, S, of our Office Service's Dept. promptly snatched them from me and said, "Miss thing, you better not send these back. Girl, what is wrong with you?!?!" So, I kept them. It's been three years since and I don't regret the purchase. Not one bit.

Gigi's bolero is really a pretty cool military-inspired piece that, with a bit of glitterization, can carry forth the Balmain look of the season. Maybe I need to get her excited about this home project. :) Me, on the other hand, I can't do the military look even if I wanted to. The atitude is just not there. I better just stick to my colorful light-hearted things. Today, I am happy despite the rain outside. Besides that, I am super pround for being able to tie that nice little bow with my leather obi. It's the little achievements that counts!

Weekday update #27: Paper Cut Dress

Well, I didn't get the three day weekend. A little thing called "a motion" prevented any other fun motion in my life for most of the weekend. But I am not complaining and am not entitled to any such complaining. In fact, I am grateful to have cases to work on in this terrible economy. But a girl is entitled to a bit of color and fun in her life. And that, is within my control. So this morning, I threw all caution to the wind and pulled out the summeriest things in the closet, a paper cutout dress. With tights and a slip, it really isn't all that see-through and kept my spirits up all day. You know what, I am almost ready to move from this "motion" to some real motion! Tomorrow may be a nice day yet!

Happy Tuesday! We're back from our 3-day weekend. We had President's Day off. I love it when a holiday like that creeps up on us, very unexpected, but much appreciated. So, yesterday, while I was laundering my clothes I got to thinking about some of the articles of clothing that I own that I absolutely despise. YET, I keep them for the oddest of reasons. I'm sure we're all like that or perhaps I just enjoy torturing myself. If that be the case, I need to start another blog based on that statement alone! Anyhow, I digress. So, as I was putting clothes away, I came across these plaid pants. I've had these pants for 10 years now and I still hate them. I hated them when I tried them on, I hated them as I twirled around the dressing room, and continued to hate them as I carried them to the cash register. Why did I buy them? Because the saleswoman just loved them on me and so did a of the few customers. Yeah, as you can see, I'm quite suggestive. Doesn't take much to sucker me into a purchase I suppose. But the main reason I got them is because they are so NOT my style. In the decade that I've owned these pants, I get 3 or more compliments per wear. For example, this morning as I was running to the elevator, I asked a woman who had just boarded to hold the door. As soon as I entered, she says to me, "Oh my God, I love your pants!" I almost fell over. I just don't get it. I don't see it, but maybe it's not for me to see. Maybe sometimes it's what we don't see that makes all the difference.

Weekday update #26: Casual Friday

This is how C and I do casual Friday. I wear this hat to keep my head warm on these crisp mornings. I'm so glad it comes with a little string and button so I can attach it to my coat. Wouldn't you know it, the one morning I decide not to attach it, does a freakin' dump truck come blazing past me and lift it right off my head! I caught it by its little string. Don't you just love it when things go your way? ^_^

I have a grand total of two pairs of jeans and they are both in the wash from a recent trip to San Francisco. Just as well, as I am much more comfortable in dresses anyway. There is a lot more room for everything. I also own very few pure cotton things due to their tendency to wrinkle and my lack of motivation and skill for ironing. This dress is one of the few things. I have it because the husband picked it out at a small shop in Bali, where we spent our honeymoon. You can't really see the collar, but it's structured out of beads and makes one think of the beach and I long to think of the beach on this kind of overcast Friday.

Weekday update #25: Simply red

Continuing with yesterday's theme of wearing little dresses to work, I dug out this colorful bubble dress with a jeweled collar. To tone down the jewels, I threw on a little grey cardigan for the office and my usual red jacket for outdoors. Gigi advised that I should give the red jacket its day in the limelight so here it is. The jacket was one of those lucky finds one happens upon when one is not really looking. Three years ago, I spent New Years day in Hong Kong, where my boyfriend, now husband, suggested a boat ride. The ride was super fun, but I came off of it absolutely frozen in my little sweater. I ducked into the nearest shop and put on the first jacket I saw. And this was it. It turned out to be less than $20 and I have gotten tons of wear out of it in the last three years.

A gorgeous day calls for gorgeous shoes. I've had these shoes for years, but I usually wear them once a year, at Xmas time. That would probably explain why they still hurt like brand new shoes as they've never been properly broken in. Honestly, I believe a great shoe does not need to be broken in. It should be good to go right out the box. Aye, there's the rub. Pun intended!
